Very Short Interview, Part 2

Going back to the initial interview, I agree with the responses the entrepreneur gave. At the time of the interview, I did not understand or had the experience to agree or disagree with what he was telling me but after almost completing this course I could clearly see what he meant. Now I could better relate to what he was saying and the advices and stories he told me during the interview.

The entrepreneur I am interviewing is my boyfriend’s grandfather Antonio Moreira, he moved from Oporto, Portugal to Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela in 1955. Where he founded Agua Clarita (clear water) a bottled water company, at the time and until this day is the biggest drinking water company in the southern part of Venezuela.

I had to call him and interview him over the phone; I have recorder his answers to the best of my ability.

Question 1: How did you get your idea or concept for your business?

“The idea for my business came out of a necessity. I was in a new country trying to find work to better support myself. I started in a small bakery and saw a piece of land with a well that would produce water. I thought to myself, this land could be more than what it is used for. I saved up and was able to buy part of the land. This is how it all started, with a few bottles of water a day until it took off.”

Question 2: To what do you attribute your success?

“I attribute my success to perseverance and necessity. I had nothing at the time; it was the will to get out of the situation I was in. I did not give up when the situation got rough. I put my mind and effort in the business and watched it slowly start to grow.

Question 3: If you had one piece of advice to someone just starting out, what would it be?

“Make your own future and keep going when times get tough. You have to work for your own future; no one is going to hand it to you. Be persistent and stay focused.”

My comfort level talking about entrepreneurship in this interview is very comfortable and easy to talk to compare to three months ago. The entrepreneur did convey a sense that they had thought I had progressed in my journey. He pointed out that I was more open and interacted more with him than last time. I understood more of what he was saying and elaborated when needed.

  1. Hello Daniela! This is a really great person to interview. I think it is awesome that you were able to get the opinion of someone you are comfortable with, first of all, and someone who really knows what it means to be an entrepreneur. I hope that you learned a lot from it. I was not able to do this post, so I cannot share my blog with you unfortunately!

  2. Hey Daniela! I think it’s great that Mr. Moreira saw an improvement in your level of comfort and you were smart to interview someone that wasn’t a complete stranger. It’s great that throughout this class you’ve become more comfortable talking different people and your overall understanding of entrepreneurship increased. I didn’t complete this assignment but you can check out my blog at http://cxgoss.blogspot.com

  3. Hi Daniela! I think that's so cool that you felt more comfortable talking to your entrepreneur this time! I actually felt the same way and felt like I knew more of what I was talking about this time when conducting my second interview. That's also really amazing that he noticed a change in you. Presentation is such an important part of entrepreneurship, and you've clearly improved in this then. Good job!
Check out my second interview on my blog!
