World's Biggest Problems

1)    Terrorism
We are seeing terrorist acts all over the world today. There have been school shootings, people planting bombs in populous events, kidnappings, shootouts and many more devastating events because of it. The main terrorist group today is ISIS attacking and threating different countries as a way of leading a rebellion. This is a growing issue worldwide that has caused approximately 13,000 fatalities worldwide. One way to stop terrorist acts is to advocate for world peace. Try to cut down their resources and have more protection in the terrorist homeland.

2)    Global warming
Although some people believe global warming is a myth, there is evidence that states otherwise. Global temperatures and sea level have risen, we are experiencing warmer oceans, ice sheets are shrinking, there is a decrease in snow cover and the Artic sea ice has declined rapidly over several years. The earth is experiencing all these changes due to human induced pollution to the atmosphere. One way to stop this is to encourage people to go green. Educate and show evidence of what pollution is doing to the earth. Place a cap on the amount of smoke industries are allowed to dispense in the atmosphere.

3)    Poverty
The world faces many poverty issues that have come as a direct result of unemployment or no jobs being available to them. Unemployment leads to people living on the streets, malnourishment, deaths, people unaccounted for, rapes, and violent crimes. Around the world there is going to be poverty in the richest of countries, one way to stop poverty is to come up with jobs and shelter programs to help them be on their own feet again.

4)    Overpopulation
Overpopulation is a very delicate subject to talk about. The earth is only so big and could sustain a limited amount of people. As humans keep living longer than before and more babies being born everyday, there is going to come a time where there is not going to be enough food to feed people or clean water to drink. An increase in population means more pollution, more consumption of natural resources, and limited space of living, which leads more poverty, extreme climate changes, and scarceness of resources. A possible solution is to encourage couples to adapt children. Provide more contraceptives and educate the public.

5)    Animal cruelty/ Endangerment of Animals
Whales, tigers, orangutans, turtles, giant pandas, rhinos and elephants are just few of the animals that are endangered. People are killing animals for hunting games and pleasures. Some kill for the animal’s fur or skin and others kill to make jewelry. Other animals are used as entertainment in circuses where they are beaten and starved to entertain the public. Animals are being held hostage tied with chains and kept in compact places, not being able to roam around freely. Placing and enforcing laws on poaching to completely ban wildlife hunting. Regulating and checking up on animals used for entertainment. Coming up with ways to discourage animal jewelry and fur products.

6)    Too many weapons/ guns
Too many weaponry and guns are leading to public shootings and wars over who is more powerful. North Korea just came out saying they have tested a hydrogen bomb and plan to use it. The violence does not stop and people are becoming afraid of leaving their own houses due to all the shooting that have happened in public places. It feels like no one is safe anymore even police are misusing their power and shooting at ‘suspect’ for no apparent reason. One way to stop too many weapons and guns is to control and do background checks on who can purchase guns/ weapons. The government could place more restrictions on how many and what types of weapons can be bought. Another way is to enforce what Australia and Canada did, they bought back the guns from the public and closed down sales while in the process and run background checks.

7)    Excessive technology
Using technology in excess is not good. People have stopped interacting with each other because they prefer to sit in front of a TV and watch a show. Many have killed innocent lives texting and driving; others have lost social skills only interacting through a computer screen. Many crimes have arisen because people have given other strangers complete access into their lives. Pedophiles stalk young victims through their social media accounts. When people go on vacation and post their pictures online it gives robbers clear access to their houses. One way to solve this is to place parental control on social media. Encouraging more live interactions among young people.

8)    Pollution
Pollution of air, water and land has become a major problem not only for earth’s atmosphere but for its inhabitants as well. Animals are dying because of polluted waters. Pollution in the water also affects humans; it has become the world’s biggest health risk. Pollution in the air causes global warming and leads to a chain reaction of other major problems on earth. Pollution in the land causes soil degradation meaning people cannot construct over it. One way to solve this is to encourage the public to go green. Advocate for reusable materials and educate the public.

9)    Depleting our natural resources
Natural resources such as coal, oil, water and natural gas have been depleting faster than we are given it time to replenish itself. Overconsumption, overpopulation, pollution, soil erosion are causes of depletion of our natural resources. Depletion of natural resources is going to lead to a deserted, dry earth. Come up with new technology using renewable energy. Place more importance on the use of renewable energy. Educate the public and be an advocate.

10) Lack of Knowledge

People’s lack of knowledge is a huge issue because they could be persuaded easily to do something that would not have a good outcome. Some people have stopped caring about what goes on around the world. People in general need to see what is going on to be better prepared for any situation that may arise. More educated people means they would care about the major issues that are at hand with the world and they could take action to prevent it for worsening.

  1. I agree with many of the problems that you listed as the world's biggest problems in particular the problems that were about lack of knowledge, pollution and terrorism. I also really enjoy how your problems do not follow the status quo of many other local problems. I also like how you included the overuse of weapons and guns as a problem also.
